SCIENCE
For science this term, the students in Room 18 have been learning about forces and the effects of friction. The students have developed incredible scientific investigative skills, and have used their knowledge of fair tests and variables to achieve accurate and informative results.
Ask your scientist to identify the forces around you. You will be so impressed.
Fabulous work, Year 4 and 5.

SUPER SCIENTIST
Super Scientist is back for Term 4. This time however, the competition sees students present a science concept to the class by way of a power point or chart. The students do not present an experiment or investigation.
A few rules to follow are:
* No longer than five minutes, with a minimum of two minutes.
* No specific science strand to draw from. Children are free to choose a topic that interest them but they must 'add value' to the topic. By this, I mean that students can not simply cut and paste a series of texts or pictures to a power point and recite it - they must attempt to re-frame it in their own words and give their own 'why this is interesting' perspective.
* When assessing, I'll be looking for the usual speaking etiquette (eye contact, volume, body language etc), plus the real passion and authentic attempt by the student to understand the concept and get their ideas across to their audience. The depth of knowledge is the key here.
Timeline - Title of the topic to Mr Petch by Wednesday, 31st October.
Class presentations to be held in the week commencing Monday 11th November

INTRODUCING MISS POLLAERS
Hi, I’m Zoe Pollaers, the pre-service teacher in Room 18, and I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to you all.
I grew up in the hills, and attended St Brigid’s College before studying nursing at Curtin University. After five years in the profession I chose to follow my passion of working with children and complete of Diploma of Primary Education.
I am an outdoors person and enjoy bushwalking and spending time at the beach with my friends and family. I love to explore, and have travelled extensively throughout Europe, Asia and America.
I feel so privileged to be at Wattle Grove Primary School, it has a wonderful atmosphere. The children have such a love for learning, and my skills as a teacher are improving every day as I observe Mr Petch’s wonderful teaching style and receive great mentoring from him.
I look forward to meeting you all and working with the incredible students in Room 18.

COMPOST
Hayley from Bunnings popped out to our school today to work teach the children all about composting. We have a new compost bin and we hope to create some nice and rich compost for our garden beds. The children now know what we can put into the compost bin and how to care for it. It may take a couple of months to break down, but when it does, we should have a great mixture that the plants will absolutely love.

DAWSON'S SPRING FLOWER POT COMPETITION
Mr Dawson from Dawson's Garden World in Forrestfield visited our school to judge the beautiful flower pots that you can see all around the school grounds. Chris, Olivia and Charlotte were delighted to explain the flowers that you can find in our pot. He also took a stroll through the vegetable garden.
It has been great to see so much colour in our school with everyone's garden looking amazing.
